Track Jacket vs Hoodie vs Quarter-Zip: Psycho Bunny Fall Layers

Posted on October 25 2026

Psycho Bunny Dimitri stretch track jacket in Baritone Blue with mock neck

A track jacket is the smartest of the three and works under a coat or over a polo. A hoodie is the most casual and the warmest around the head and neck. A quarter-zip sweatshirt sits in between and is the easiest to wear over a collared shirt. If you buy one, buy the quarter-zip.

What is each layer best for?

Each layer has a natural setting: the track jacket for smart casual, the hoodie for weekends, the quarter-zip for everything in between.

  • Track jacket: full zip, mock neck, ribbed hem and cuffs. Looks sharp zipped up, works open over a T-shirt, and fits under a wool coat without bulk. The most polished of the three.
  • Hoodie: full zip and hood. The most relaxed and the most comfortable on a cold arena morning or a dog walk. The hood rules it out of most offices and restaurants.
  • Quarter-zip sweatshirt: pullover with a short zip and a funnel neck. Shows a collar nicely, layers under a jacket, and looks put-together with jeans.

If most of your week is casual Fridays, coffee meetings and dinners out, the quarter-zip earns the most wear. If your fall is hockey rinks and Saturday errands, the hoodie wins.

The track jackets: Dimitri and Jaydon

The Dimitri and Jaydon are the same stretch track jacket in two colours, at $230 each.

Both are 76% cotton, 17% polyester and 7% spandex, in a regular fit with a full zip, mock neck, rib-knit hem and cuffs, and an embroidered patch. The cotton keeps it from looking like gym wear; the spandex lets it move.

The Psycho Bunny Dimitri Stretch Track Jacket in Baritone Blue is the easier colour, good with grey, white and denim. The Psycho Bunny Jaydon Stretch Track Jacket in Pine Needle is a deep green that looks rich with stone chinos or black jeans. Wear either zipped over a white tee, or open over a polo with trousers for a smart casual look that is still comfortable on a long drive.

The quarter-zips: Gabe and Marc

Choose the Gabe for a relaxed, soft cotton sweatshirt and the Marc for a cleaner, trimmer one.

The Psycho Bunny Gabe Cotton French Terry Quarter-Zip in Ecru ($190) is 100% cotton French terry with a relaxed fit, dropped shoulders, a funnel neck, a vented hem and an embroidered contrast Bunny. It is the most comfortable piece in this post. It also comes as the Gabe in Baritone Blue, which is the safer colour if you will wear it a lot.

The Psycho Bunny Marc Textured Stretch Quarter-Zip in Heather Stone ($178) is 69% cotton, 26% polyester and 5% elastane in a textured stretch fabric, cut in a regular fit with a funnel neck and a tonal Bunny patch. Regular fit plus stretch means it sits closer than the Gabe, so it layers more neatly under a blazer or overshirt.

The hoodie: Marc full-zip

The Psycho Bunny Marc Textured Stretch Full-Zip Hoodie in Black ($190) is the hoodie to own if you want one that still looks considered.

It uses the same textured stretch fabric as the Marc quarter-zip (69% cotton, 26% polyester, 5% elastane), in a regular fit with a full-zip hood and a tonal embroidered Bunny patch. Black plus tonal branding keeps it quiet. It is the one I would wear to a weekend game under a car coat, and the one I would not wear to a client lunch.

How do these Psycho Bunny layers fit?

The Dimitri, Jaydon and both Marc pieces are regular fit; the Gabe is relaxed with dropped shoulders.

For the regular-fit pieces, take your usual size. They have stretch, so there is no need to size up for comfort. For the Gabe, the dropped shoulder is intentional: the shoulder seam will sit below your natural shoulder, and that is how it is meant to look. Size down only if the body is long on you as well as wide. Our Psycho Bunny sizing guide covers how the brand runs in more detail.

Common questions

Can you wear a track jacket with jeans?

Yes. A track jacket with dark jeans and leather sneakers is a clean casual outfit. Keep the jeans dark and the shoes leather so it does not look like gym clothes.

Can you wear a quarter-zip over a collared shirt?

Yes, and it is one of the best uses for one. Let the collar sit inside the funnel neck or fold it over the top. Both look right.

Which is warmest?

The hoodie, because the hood covers your neck and head. Between the Gabe and Marc quarter-zips, the 100% cotton French terry Gabe feels the cosiest.

Do they work under a coat?

The track jackets and the Marc quarter-zip work best, because their regular fit adds little bulk. A hoodie under a tailored coat looks crowded at the collar.
