Paul Betenly is a Canadian menswear brand sold through independent menswear stores across Canada. The brand describes its approach as modern fit and styling merged with old world tailoring techniques (pick stitching, hand sewn armholes, distinct linings and trims) at the best price to value it can offer Canadians. It is the suit we show first when a customer wants Italian cloth at a sensible price, and a regular choice for our wedding packages.
What is the Ronaldo fit?
Ronaldo is Paul Betenly's modern fit, labelled the R-body on the product page. It is the brand's most popular model. The jacket is tailored closer to the body than a classic suit but leaves room to move and sit, and the lapel is slimmer than the classic model. Jacket and trouser come together at one price. If you are very slim or athletic, Griffin (below) may suit you better.
What fabric is the Ronaldo made from?
Every Ronaldo we stock is 100% wool, Super 120s, from Biella, Italy. The product pages call it 100% Vintage Wool, the brand's own name for the cloth.
Super 120s describes the fineness of the fibre: smooth and good draping without being fragile. For a suit worn to work every week, or through a summer of weddings, it is the sweet spot. It holds a crease, recovers from a day of sitting, and steams back into shape. Finer cloths wrinkle faster.
How does the Paul Betenly Ronaldo size?
Buy your normal jacket chest size. The trouser has a 7 inch drop: a 42R jacket ships with a 35 inch waist, a 40R with a 33, a 44R with a 37. Sizes run 36 to 48 in most colours (Taupe to 54R), each in up to three lengths: the plain number is regular (40), S is short (40S), T is tall (40T). As a rule of thumb, short suits men under about 5 foot 8 and tall suits men over about 6 foot 1.
The 7 inch drop is the trade-off with any full suit. If your waist is more than 7 inches smaller than your chest, the trouser needs taking in, a routine job for any tailor. Between jacket sizes, take the larger and have it brought in; you cannot add cloth to a suit that is too small.

Ronaldo or Griffin: which Paul Betenly fit should you choose?
Choose Ronaldo for a full suit in a modern cut when your chest to waist difference is around 7 inches. Choose Griffin if you are slim or athletic, or your jacket and trouser sizes do not match.
Griffin is the brand's slim fit, the G-body, sold as separates: you pick jacket size and trouser size independently. The jacket is cut closer, a little shorter, with a slimmer lapel than Ronaldo, in the same Super 120s Biella wool. What should you wear with it?
A white non-iron dress shirt and a black cap toe cover navy, grey, black and taupe. Does the Paul Betenly Ronaldo run small?
No. It is cut closer than a classic suit but true to chest size. What people misjudge is the trouser: a 40 jacket brings a 33 waist, so if you wear a 35, expect to let it out or look at Griffin separates.
Is the Ronaldo suit fully lined?

How do I care for a Super 120s wool suit?
Wide hanger, a brush after wearing, a day off between wears, steam rather than press. Dry clean only when it is actually dirty.
