Boys' suits at Ed's Fine Imports in Markham come in sizes 4 through 18, in seven colours, at $299.99 CAD for the Giorgio Fiorelli line that makes up most of our stock. Size by chest and height, not age, and only size up if the event is more than a few months away. Here is what we stock and how to size it.
What sizes do boys' suits come in?
Our main line, Giorgio Fiorelli, runs in even sizes 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18, and every size is in stock in every colour as I write this. Isaac Mizrahi runs 7 through 18, with stock mostly in the larger sizes right now.
The size number roughly tracks age for an average build, so a 4 fits many four-year-olds and a 12 fits many twelve-year-olds. Roughly is the key word: a tall, lean nine-year-old is often a 10 and a compact ten-year-old is often an 8. Past a size 18, he moves into men's sizing, and we carry that too.
We do not have husky or slim cuts in the boys' range right now. If your son is broad through the middle, take the size that fits his chest and let us take the waist in.
How do you measure a boy for a suit?
Measure chest, waist and height. The chest decides the size.
- Chest: around the fullest part, under the arms, snug but not tight, standing naturally.
- Waist: around the natural waist, where the pants will sit.
- Height: in socks, against a wall. Height tells us sleeve and pant length.
Send us those numbers and we will tell you which size to order. In the store we do this in two minutes and he tries the jacket on, which beats any chart.
Should you size up so it lasts?
Only if the event is three or more months away, and never by more than one size. A jacket that is too big shows in the shoulders, and shoulders cannot be altered. Sleeves and hems can, so a suit that fits the shoulders now usually survives one growth spurt with a let-down.
The trade-off: a suit that fits today looks best in the photos and lasts about a season. One size up looks slightly loose today and may fit properly next year. For a wedding, communion or graduation with photos, fit him today. For a boy with several events ahead, size up once and let us hem.
What comes with a boys' suit, and what does it cost?
Jacket and pants always. The Giorgio Fiorelli suits in New Navy and Charcoal are listed as three-piece, with a matching vest, in wool, at $299.99 CAD. The other colours are the same price; ask us whether the vest is included before you order.
Colours in stock today, all $299.99 CAD and all in sizes 4 to 18:
- Black, New Navy, Charcoal and Medium Grey: the safe choices for weddings, communions and dress codes. For a communion, pair New Navy with a white shirt.
- Beige and Light Blue: spring and summer weddings, outdoor ceremonies, and family photos where a dark suit looks heavy.
- Light Grey: sits between the two.
From Isaac Mizrahi, the Boys Suit in Navy is $299.99 CAD in sizes 14, 16 and 18, and the Cobalt 2 Piece Suit is $199.99 CAD with a 12 and a 16 left; its pants have an interior adjustable waist, handy for a boy between sizes. Shirts, ties and shoes are separate: see boys' shirts and boys' dress shoes.
Can a boys' suit be altered?
Yes, and most need a small one. We hem pants, adjust sleeves and take in the waist in store. Shoulders and jacket length should fit off the rack, because they are the expensive things to change. If you are ordering from outside the GTA, any local tailor can do a hem and a sleeve; allow two weeks before the event.
Do boys' suits come with the wedding packages?
Our Silver, Gold and Platinum wedding packages (from $495.99 per person plus tax, minimum four suits) include boys' suits at a reduced price for ring bearers and junior groomsmen. The boys' price depends on the package and the suit, so call us with the number of boys and their ages for a quote. Details are on the wedding packages page.
Common questions
What size boys' suit for a 7 year old?
Usually a 6 or an 8, depending on build. Measure his chest and height rather than guessing from age. Giorgio Fiorelli skips odd sizes, so if he sits between, take the 8 and we will shorten the sleeves and hem the pants.
What colour boys' suit for a wedding?
Match the groomsmen if he is in the party; navy or charcoal if he is a guest. For a summer or outdoor wedding, beige or light blue photographs well. Keep black for evening weddings and formal dress codes.
Can I order online and return it if the size is wrong?
Yes, unworn with tags on, within the window on our shipping and returns page. To skip the round trip, email us his measurements before you order and we will confirm the size.
Do you ship boys' suits to the US?
Yes, and shipping is free over $75, which every suit clears. Giorgio Fiorelli and Isaac Mizrahi are imported brands, so US orders may be charged duty on arrival.
Next step: browse the boys' suits collection, pick the colour, and send us his measurements if you want a second opinion on size. Shipping is free over $75 in Canada and the US, and duties may apply to imported brands on US orders. Or come see us in Markham and we will fit him in person.
