Blue Industry is a Dutch menswear brand, founded in 2007, that builds slim, stretch-fabric blazers, suits, shirts and polos for men who wear the same clothes to the office and to dinner. At Ed's Fine Imports the blazers run $595 to $795 CAD, sized 36R to 50R, slim fit and true to size.
What is Blue Industry, and who is it for?
Blue Industry is a Netherlands-based label started in 2007 by Rogier van Kleef and Maurice de Bont, with a brand store in Rotterdam. In its own words, it dresses the "urban professional" in clothes that switch between work and leisure.
In practice that means stretch cloth, light construction and a slim silhouette. I carry it for the man who finds a wool sport coat stiff and wants one jacket for a tee on Friday and a shirt on Monday. It is not the brand for a full, classic cut or a canvassed wool jacket; for those, see the Jack Victor guide at the bottom.
What are Blue Industry blazers made of, and how are they built?
Most Blue Industry blazers are a polyester and viscose stretch weave with minimal lining, so they weigh less and give more than a lined wool jacket.
The woven stretch blazers, including the Blue Industry Core Waffle Blazer in Cobalt ($595 CAD) and the Blue Industry Waffle Blazer in Navy ($595 CAD), are 55% polyester and 45% viscose. The waffle is a fine textured weave: texture up close, a solid from across the room. The Cobalt sold online this summer and is where I point men who already own navy.
The jersey blazers are the knit side of the range. The Blue Industry Mottled Jersey Jacket in Blue ($595 CAD) is a polyester, viscose and elastane knit with patch pockets, a melange surface and a matching pocket square. The Blue Industry Checkered Jacket in Sand ($795 CAD) is an 88% polyester, 9% viscose, 3% elastane jersey with flap pockets, a pocket square and a matching chino if you want the set. A jersey blazer feels closer to a cardigan than a suit jacket and comes out of a suitcase without a press, so it is the pick for travel or a July wedding.
The trade-off: these are synthetic blends, not wool. They will not develop the drape of a good wool jacket over ten years, and they hold more heat on a humid day than open-weave linen. In return you get stretch, low weight and a price under $800.
How do Blue Industry blazers fit, and do they run slim?
Yes, every Blue Industry blazer is a slim fit, and the product pages say true to size. Order the chest size you wear in other slim jackets. Sizing is numeric, 36R through 50R, regular length only; if you are under about 5 foot 7 or over 6 foot 2, a regular may need a sleeve adjustment, which we do in house.
Slim means a trim chest, a suppressed waist and a higher armhole than a classic cut. If you carry weight through the middle, or want room for a sweater underneath, go one size up and have the waist taken in. The jersey jackets give more than the woven ones, so a man between sizes can usually take the smaller size in jersey and the larger in the waffle weave.
What about Blue Industry polos and shirts?
Polos are sized Small to XX-Large in a regular fit; dress shirts are sized by collar and run slim.
The Blue Industry Blaine Quarter-Zip Polo in Blue ($225 CAD) is a cotton and modal knit with a quarter-zip collar, fine striping and contrast trim, and the only item here cut regular rather than slim. It sits over a chest without clinging and dresses up under either waffle blazer.
For shirts, the Blue Industry Core Flex Dress Shirt in Sepia ($255 CAD) is 85% nylon and 15% spandex, sized 39M through 45XXL by collar, slim and true to size. It is a stretch, moisture-wicking shirt built for travel, and the label says dry clean only, which surprises people on a shirt. Blue Industry also makes slim linen dress shirts in white, sand, pink and navy at $245 CAD, in 39, 41 and 43 collars.

Do Blue Industry blazers run small?
They run slim, not small. A 40R fits a 40-inch chest through a trimmer body than a classic jacket. Take your usual size for a close fit, or go up one and let us taper the waist.
Can I wear a Blue Industry blazer as part of a suit?
Several can. The Checkered Jacket and the Mottled Jersey Jacket both have a matching chino, and Blue Industry sells full suits at $695 CAD in navy, black, grey pinstripe and brown check. Ask us to confirm the bottoms are in stock first.
How do I care for a Blue Industry blazer?
Dry clean only, iron on low. Between cleanings, hang it on a shaped hanger and steam it.
