There’s more to looking good than just great clothes. Most men don’t pay much attention to skincare beyond slapping on some after shave. But, especially since summer’s finally here, paying at least basic attention to skincare will help keep you looking as good as the suits you wear.
If nothing else, at least try these skincare fundamentals to not only look your best, but protect the health of your skin too.
1. Keep it Clean
You should wash your face at least twice a day; once when you wake up and once when you go to bed. The morning cleaning sets you up for the day ahead. And if you don’t wash before bed, all the dirt, pollutants and sweat that builds up through the day gets pushed deeper into your pores with your face against a pillow for 8 hours.
2. Moisturize
If you think moisturizing is a ladies-only deal, you’re robbing your skin of one of the most important ingredients for its health. It’s important to moisturize after every cleaning because not only have you washed away dirt, but you’ve also wiped off most of your natural skin oils. A good moisturizer will protect your skin and shouldn’t feel greasy.
3. Protect it From Sun Damage
Here’s a quick breakdown of how the sun damages your skin. Sunlight delivers two types of radiation to your skin, UVB and UVA. UVB is a shortwave and doesn’t penetrate too far into your skin. It’s UVB that gives you a sun burn and can cause skin cancer. UVA is long-wave radiation that gets deeper into your skin to cause the sorts of damage that produces wrinkles and premature aging.
Sunscreen Tip:
The SPF (sun protection factor) rating of sunscreens refers only to UVB protection. If you want protection from both UVB and UVA radiation, look for sunscreens that are ‘broad-spectrum’.
